Cabinetry Styles For Your DIY Project

Need a new cabinet for more stuff in your house, but don’t have the budget for it? Why not do it yourself? If you think about it, it may seem like a long journey. Yes, cabinetry is tough but it is also challenging especially for a novice. The good thing about this is you need not pay for someone to get your cabinets done. You are able to spend less and save more. Plus, you get the chance of learning a new skill in cabinet making, and the opportunity to brag about it to your friends. Well, to some point.

Before you start, you have to decide on the kind of cabinetry style you would want for your home.

  • American. Imagine a picture with a frame and replace the picture with a cabinet, and add stiles and rails to the side panels where the door is attached. That is the American style of cabinetry. It is putting a face frame to the cabinet to provide support to the whole cabinet. Its installation is easier than the frameless. However, it may cost you more due to the additional expense of the frame and provides less space in the interior.

  • European. A cabinet with no frame around it. That is the European style of cabinetry. In frameless cabinets, the door is directly attached to the cabinet, and its strength relies on the cabinet box itself. It is a little bit harder to install than the framed since its installation depends on how straight the cabinet’s walls are. The overall appearance of this cabinet is seamless and modern.

The intricate details are exquisitely designed in such a way that it tells a story to the onlookers. Hence, its craftsmanship is a marvel to see. Such cabinetry is not applicable for a beginner on a DIY project. You may have to visit Asian stores should you want to have Asian inspired cabinetry unless of course, if you opt for the simpler designs.

Once you have decided, you need to check the kind of materials that you will be using, its availability as well as its total cost. Likewise, consider the finishing and the painting of the cabinets. Finally, ask yourself if you are really up to it. It may take time and a lot of effort but your DIY cabinetry will give you a one of a kind experience that you will never forget.
